SmarterMeasure is an online survey that helps students evaluate their readiness to take an online class. With the goal of increasing online student success, Shoreline Community College has been using SmarterMeasure for a handful of years and now has enough usage data to present key findings on how the tool is helping the College meet that goal. SmarterMeasure improves success among students from underserved communities and who are historically underrepresented in higher education in that it helps students of color earn better grades. It also helps with retention, especially for students attending college for the first time and those taking online classes solely. Audience members will learn the what, why, how, and when of SmarterMeasure deployment at Shoreline Community College and will reflect on whether their institution should consider using SmarterMeasure or a similar assessment tool.
